"Friendsgiving" movie is bringing us nearly a dozen LGBTQ characters

Remember just a few short years ago, holiday movies with LGBTQ characters were basically non-existent? Then LezBomb and Season of Love came along and after years of rallying Hallmark and Lifetime, the two networks are finally including gay romance storylines in their holiday offerings. We're also getting ready for a major studio queer Christmas film starring Kristen Stewart and Mackenzie Davis, directed by Clea Duvall called The Happiest Season which drops November 25th. Now we have another queer-inclusive holiday film to get behind called Friendsgiving, which just released its first trailer.

Friendsgiving is written and directed by Nicol Paone (Big Gay Sketch Show) stars Kat Dennings and Malin Akerman as best friends Abby and Molly who end up having a big ol' dysfunctional Thanksgiving dinner complete with exes, challenging parents, and lots of gays. According to Paone, the film includes ten LGBTQIA characters played by nine out LGBTQIA actors including Fortune Feimster, Margret Cho, and Wanda Sykes as "Fairy Gay Mothers" (my invitation must have gotten lost in the mail).

We don't much about the plot other than what we can glean from the trailer, but Dennings' character Abby is queer and still nursing a broken heart from her last relationship. Perhaps she'll find a new love in one of the queer folks in attendance.

Friendsgiving premieres on VOD on October 23rd.
