kd lang's new album "makeover" features dance remixes of her most beloved songs
Ever the chameleon, lesbian chanteuse kd lang has done it all: standards, country, big band, pop, Canadian covers, and many fabulous collaborations. lang hasn't put out a solo album in a decade, however, so it was a delight to hear that she has a new material coming out on May 28th. makeover (you know how kd feels about capital letters!) is a dance album featuring remixes by popular producers like Junior Vasquez, Love to Infinity, and Chris Brann. The result is a mix of titles and genres including "Miss Chatelaine" "Sexuality" and "The Consequences of Falling".
Also, the cover art is a never-before-released image of kd lang taken by David LaChapelle in 1995. According to lang, "I had the idea of putting together a dance remix compilation, as I mused about how we built community in those days before the internet, mobile devices, and dating apps. Those dance clubs were a key to a world, which was still called ‘underground in the ’90s. I also surprised myself by finding that there was a cryptic, sort of secret zone in my career, that hadn’t been explored, overlooked even by me. Two of these tracks had even hit #1 on the dance charts!”
When you pre-order the album through the Nonesuch Records store, you will also receive an exclusive, limited-edition print of the album cover signed by lang, and a paper doll PDF set, designed by artist Katja Virtanen. I can't tell you how much I want a paper doll set of kd lang right now.
As we look towards once again being able to gather again, maybe even in time for Pride in some areas, this new kd lang album is dropping just in time. Let's dance.
